Overview

A trip to Greece is in complete without a visit to this venerated sanctuary of the ancient world, Delphi. Driving through the Greek National Road, across the stunning plains of Boeotia right up to the foot of Mt. Parnassus, this is one unforgettable journey back to the highly celebrated society of Ancient Greece and to a city that was believed to be the centre of the world.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Delphi was home to the legendary Oracle of Greece and was a city with huge religious and political importance. Our first stop for the day is the historic Castalian Spring. Set amidst a picturesque ravine between the Phaedriades cliffs, this is where all visitors of the Oracle, as well as the Oracle herself with her high priestess, washed themselves. While at Castalian Spring, you can take your time to explore the numerous ruins dotting this place including the monument of the Argive kings, the majestic Athenian Treasury, the ancient portico of the Athenian Stoa, the intriguing Polygonal Wall, the Serpentine Column at Platea and of course, last but not the least, the highly revered Temple of Apollo.

Once you have soaked in the impeccable aura of nostalgia and historicity shrouding this site, we will move on to the fascinating Delphi Museum where you can catch sight of some fantastic artefacts like the Naxian Sphinx, a frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, the statue of Antinous who was a beloved of the Roman emperor Hadrian and the famous bronze sculpture of Heniokhos, the Charioteer of Delphi. Revel in engrossing anecdotes of the Classical Era as you feast your eyes on these incredible remnants of the past.

After a memorable tryst with the charm of antiquity, you can treat yourself a relaxed lunch at the pretty little village of Arachova. Post lunch, indulge in a serene stroll along this panoramic locale, savouring the gorgeous scenery surrounding you and enjoying a traditional Greek cuppa before heading home, having satiated your heart and soul. If you are still in the mood for another alluring dose of history, we can make a last stop at the 10th century Byzantine monastery of Hosios Loukas, a spectacular architectural marvel located on slopes the iconic Mount Helicon! This is a day, we promise, that will keep your travel bug at its active best!
