Tear yourself away from Cancun’s beautiful beaches for half a day and enjoy this thrilling watery experience. We promise you won’t regret it!

Board a two-person wave-runner and whizz across the aquamarine waters of the great Nichupte Lagoon. Look out for birds such as pelican and cormorant on the open water, for heron and ibis at the water’s edge and for crocodiles lurking in the shallows.

Your guide will lead you through the deep green mangrove forests fringing the lagoon and tell you about the creatures that live in this marshy area.

Arriving at the coral reef you can swim and snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Mexico’s Gulf Coast. Experience the magical world of the Great Mesoamerican Reef. Marvel at the glorious colors and shapes of the coral and the shoals of darting multi-hued reef fish. Look out for barracuda, groupers, sea turtles, octopuses and manta rays.

Return across the sparkling Lagoon to shower and change and chat with your companions about all you have seen on this exciting adventure.

For your thrilling Nichupte Lagoon Speedboat, Jungle Tour & Snorkeling adventure you should make your way to the meeting point at Sunrise Marina, hotel zone, next to Crab House Restaurant.

You will put on life-jackets and your swimming costume and board your speedboat. Adults of 18 years and over can drive the speed-boat (two-seater wave-runner) after instruction from the guide. You’ll whizz across the enormous Nichupte Lagoon, which is rich in waterfowl, fish, snakes, crocodiles, shellfish, and mangrove vegetation.

As you navigate the waterways through the mangrove forests, your guide will point out the special flora and fauna that live in this unique habitat.

After about 45 minutes, you will reach the coral reef at the National Marine Aquarium where you can swim and snorkel. Shallow, warm waters, outstanding visibility and an abundance of marine life make this a spectacular spot to experience all that the Great Mesoamerican Reef (the second largest reef in the world) has to offer.

After about 30 minutes snorkeling, you will drive your wave runner back to Nichupte Lagoon and make your way through the mangroves to reach the Sunrise Marina, where you can shower and change into dry clothes.

The tour ends at Sunrise Marina.

Really enjoyed this experience! The meeting point was a doddle to get to, costing my dad and I less than one English pound to get there by bus from our hotel in Cancun. The whole... Mr W Thomas

Additional info

  • The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have.
  • Anyone who can swim can learn to snorkel, it just takes a little practice. Two tricks are to spit inside your mask before putting it on (so your mask won't fog up) and make a strong "TOO" sound to blow the water out of your snorkel.
  • Most of the reef fish are not dangerous, unless you bother them. When on the reef, don't touch or stand on the coral. It looks like rock, but is a living creature which is killed by touch. Coral grows so slowly that breaking off a tiny piece could undo 10 years of growth
