Last stop on the tour is the magnificent Mayan site of Ek Balam. Pre-dating Chichen Itza this superb complex is one of the most impressive Mayan ceremonial centers.
For your Cenote Maya & Ek Balam Tour – from Cancun you will be picked up at your Cancun hotel lobby and drive to the Cenote Maya with its beautiful rock formations. Swim and splash to your heart’s content in the 80m diameter natural pool.
Ascend from the mysterious underworld to some delightful gardens then visit the renowned artisans of the region. Watch in admiration as they demonstrate their skills, using the same technologies and techniques as their ancient Mayan ancestors.
It is then time for a traditional Maya buffet lunch with a selection of dishes such as lime soup, cheese and chaya tamales, beans, vegetables, rice, mole, chicken, hand -made tortillas, fruits, dessert, flavored water and coffee.
After lunch you will have the chance to do some adventure activities such as: • Rappel (same as abseiling ie descending a vertical rock face or wall by sliding backwards down a belayed rope)
• Trepachanga (using balance and strength to traverse rope-joined platforms without falling off)
• Tarzan vine – swing through the air like Tarzan and Jane.
Lastly, you will visit the Ek Balam, one of the Yucatan peninsula’s most impressive ceremonial centers. Ek Balam means "Bright Star Jaguar" in Maya language and this ancient city preceded the more famous Chichen Itza.
Admire the incredible decoration of the temples and plazas particularly the jaguar mouth in front of the main temple. See the unique sculptures in high relief that have had scholars and archeologists twitching with excitement. Learn about the Mayan ball game Pok Ta Pok and take a photo at the false arch, one of the architectural icons of the Maya culture.
After your visit to Ek Balam, return to Cancun where you will be dropped off at your hotel lobby.
