Overview

Embark on a trip from Berlin to the stunning city of Dresden – the royal residence of the Saxon kings. The city named ‘The Pearl of the Baroque’ due to its artistic splendour is considered one of the most beautiful places in Germany.

Dresden is well known for experiencing sheer devastation after the Allied bombing campaign dropped bombs for a series of three days in February 1945, killing 40,000 people. See how Germany rebuilt the 13 square miles of the city destroyed by the extreme fire storm.

See the incredible architecture in the Old Town, the famous ‘Frauenkirche’ (Church of Our Lady) and the ‘Balcony of Europe – that was once Dresden’s defensive fortification on the River Elbe. Be stunned by works from Raphael, Rembrandt and Rubens – all part of the Old Masters Collection that resides in the Zwinger medieval fortress.

After your guided tour you will have free time to wander through the city at your leisure, see the fantastic museums, stroll through the flea markets or simply relax on the waterfront.

Itinerary

Your tour begins in Berlin where you’ll be picked up in a luxury coach and driven to Dresden, one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. Your journey to Dresden will take about an hour.

You’ll explore the immaculately restored Old Town – a remarkable achievement after the Allied bombers dropped 3,900 tonnes of incendiary bombs for three days in 1945 destroying 13 square miles of the city. Admire the Church of Our Lady, the Semper Opera House, the ‘Balcony of Europe’ and the Zwinger medieval fortress – home to Old Masters Collection.

All the while, your guide will tell you tales of experience during the Communist and wartime era and stories of August the Strong who fathered 300 illegitimate children.

Enjoy free time where you can explore the world-class museums, chill out by the stunning waterfront or wander through the flea market to hunt some bargains.

At the end of your time in Dresden you will board your luxury coach to return to Berlin.
