For families traveling with kids and teens, or indeed thrill-seekers of any age the New York Speedboat Ride is the perfect outing. There is no hotel pick-up, so you should make your own way to the start point at Pier 16, South Street Seaport, Downtown Manhattan. The start point can be reached by subway, bus or car.
Boarding usually starts about 15 minutes before departure time. It is a good idea to arrive a little earlier than your booked time so you can choose your seat. If you want to stay dry, it's best to sit at the front. If you feel getting wet is all part of the fun, then ignore this advice!
You'll know the 135-passenger Shark Speedboat as soon as you see it – it has a set of fierce toothy jaws painted on the front. This super-fast boat will whizz you in a cloud of spray from South Street Seaport around the southern tip of Manhattan, stopping for a photo-opportunity at the Statue of Liberty.
You will also get great views of the Manhattan Skyline, Ellis Island, the financial district and Brooklyn Bridge.
As you zip along, the captain tells you about the sights you can see. Music plays throughout the 30-minute ride and the focus is on thrills and fun.
Your ride ends back at South Street Seaport.
