At the end of the celebrity homes tour, you will be dropped at the J. Paul Getty Museum, perched on a hillside in the Santa Monica mountains. Here, in a set of stunning post-modern buildings, is a vast collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present. (There is no charge for entry to the museum.)
This treasure trove includes many Impressionist paintings, exquisite French furniture and decorative arts, fine illuminated manuscripts, contemporary photography, and European drawings.
The Impressionist paintings include works by Cezanne, Monet, Van Gogh, Gauguin and Degas. The most famous and visited of these is the celebrated 'Irises' by Vincent Van Gogh.
Your Getty Museum tour is self-guided and, to make the most of your visit, it is probably a good idea to pick up the brochure What to See at the information desk. It is also helpful to start your visit with the orientation film.
You have 5 ½ hours to spend at the museum on this trip so you will have plenty of time to admire the entrancing architecture, the views and the tranquil gardens at this superb cultural venue.
