Overview

Take a tour of the charming seaside town of Hermanus and spend the day whale watching on this South African excursion. Begin the tour with a drive along a winding mountainous road and you will be delighted by panoramic views of the region. Nestled between towering mountains and the sea below, Hermanus will charm you at first glance.

Keep your camera handy to capture an image of the town’s most popular visitor, the Southern Right Whale. From a distance of 20 metres from the shore, these mammals will provide whale-watchers with spectacular displays of raw power as well as elegant water acrobatics.

Itinerary

In the morning, you will be picked up in an air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel in central Cape Town and taken on a tour of Hermanus. There will be commentary in English in the vehicle.

This circular tour takes you over a mountain pass to the seaside town of Hermanus. This town, nestled between mountains and the sea is not only very beautiful but offers some of the best shore-based whale watching opportunities in the world (August – November). Close sightings of the Southern Right whale are likely.

Your journey continues into the beautiful Hemel en Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) to the Bouchard Finlayson Wine Estate where we are treated to tasting some of their delicious wines. This wine estate is closed on Sundays, but a visit to the Stoney Point Penguin Colony will be included instead, to have a look at a unique colony of African penguins (time permitting) before returning to Cape Town in the afternoon.
