Visit the Krishna temples of Mathura and Vrindavan and learn more about India’s rich culture and the beliefs of the Hindu religion in this private tour. Mathura is revered as the birthplace of Hindu God Krishna and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year who pay homage at its temples and bathe in the river Yamuna. Also called ‘Brajbhoomi’ or the Land of Eternal Love, Mathura offers a glimpse into the culture of India.

Tales of Krishna’s mischievous antics as a child are still told in Vrindavan, where he is believed to have spent his childhood. ‘Aarti’ (prayer) ceremonies held in the many temples of the town are interesting to see, with money, sweets and flowers being showered upon the deities.

A land of rich traditions and culture, the Krishna temples of Mathura and Vrindavan reflect the essence of Hindu religious belief in India. The peal of temple bells and stories about Krishna’s mischievous youth are common in these holy cities.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel/airport/railway station in Delhi and travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to Mathura covering a distance of 155 kilometres. Enroute you may stop for breakfast (payable direct).

Also called Brajbhoomi or the Land of Eternal Love, Mathura is believed to be the place where Hindu God Krishna was born. Mathura is a quiet town on the River Yamuna and attracts thousands of pilgrims each year who come to pay homage at the Krishna temples. The most famous temple in Mathura is the Krishna Janambhoomi temple, which is a huge complex. Inside the complex are many temples and a prison in the basement which is said to be the birthplace of Krishna. Appreciate the architecture and watch the devout offer prayers at the temple.

There will be a break for lunch (payable direct).

Continue to Vrindavan, which is 9 kilometres from Mathura. This is where Krishna is believed to have spent his mischievous youth. Dotted with a number of temples, you will get a flavour of India’s rich culture and heritage as you visit these religious sites. The most famous temples here are the Madan Mohan temple near the river Yamuna, the Radha Vallabh temple and the Rangnath temple. All the temples have beautiful architecture with carvings that are worth seeing. Vrindavan is also famous for the ISKON temple, built in pure white marble by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness which has a large worldwide following.

Also visit the ghats (banks) of the Yamuna River and Nidhivan, a garden where Krishna and his consort Radha are said to have spent time.
