US$ 65.31 Price per person from View price guide

Highlights

  • Take a cruise on Lake Chiemsee to Herrenchiemsee to visit the opulent Royal Palace
  • Enjoy free time on the quiet island of Fraueninsel
  • The tour is led by an expert guide you will travel from Munich in an air-conditioned coach

Overview

On the largest of the Bavarian lakes, Chiemsee, you’ll take a boat ride to the Island of Herreninsel. Imagine the refreshing winds as you travel across Chiemsee’s blue waters by ferry. You’ll feel as though you’ve traveled back in time to the majestic worlds created by King Ludwig II.

You’ll visit King Ludwig’s II castle, Herrenchiemsee. It is a stunning replica of the palace of Versailles in France. Only accessible by small ferry, it was one of the private refuges of King Ludwig II, the fairy-tale king. If you fancy a stroll through a day in the life of a King, this is the tour for you.

Also in store is a visit to Fraueninsel, the second largest of the 3 islands in Chiemsee.

Itinerary

The tour starts in front of the “Karstadt” department store, you will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach from here, accompanied by a bilingual guide (English and German).

The first part of the tour is a boat ride and a guided visit to Herrenchiemsee. Herrenchiemsee was one of King Ludwig II’s castles, and although it is a replica of Versailles, it outshines it in ways which left a lingering impression of King Ludwig II. The Hall of Mirrors (which surpasses the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles) as well as many other ornately decorated rooms will delight and inspire on this guided tour.

Afterwards, you’ll continue by boat to Fraueninsel (cruise fee is not included and must be paid on the day of the tour). On the island you’ll be given time to visit the Benedictine church and take a walk on the island. The island is also known as “Women’s Island”, and the Benedictine Church is a nunnery in the faith of Catholicism. The island is a wonderfully natural setting, and it is lovely to take a stroll beside the lake.

The tour ends at the starting point.
