Soak up the beauty and idyllic charm of southern France with this horse riding excursion in Fontvieille, at the heart of the Provence des Alpilles. You will be welcomed into Fontvieille by a vast carpet of olive trees, shrubs and lush green fields on either sides of the road.

The Provence countryside made famous by Van Gogh’s paintings, you will ride through a landscape of pine forests, olive groves and perfumed garrigues. Along the way, stop to take pictures of this beautiful village with ancient houses built of stone extracted from the famous quarries founded in the 15th century.

It is also the place where celebrated French novelist Alphonse Daudet wrote his famous ‘Lettres de Mon Moulin’ in 1869. To see the ‘Moulin de Daudet’, trot up the small hill until you reach the summit where a solitary windmill overlooks the valley.

Itinerary

You will be picked up in an air-conditioned minibus from your hotel in Avignon. Accompanied by an English-speaking driver-cum-guide, you will be taken to Fontvieille for a 2-hour horseback riding into the ‘Massif of the Alpilles’, in the heart of Provence’s countryside. You will be taken to a ranch in Fontvieille where your horse riding excursion begins.

You will ride amongst pine forests, olive groves and perfumed garrigues plants. You can make photo stops along the way and capture the beauty of the landscape, its quaint villages, lush farmlands, ancient buildings and hills covered in olive trees.

After a memorable day of horse riding, return to Avignon and you will be dropped back to your hotel.
