Your exciting Yarra Valley, Puffing Billy & Healesville tour starts when you are picked up from your hotel or from Federation Square in Melbourne.
Relax in a comfortable coach and look out of the windows at the beautiful landscape. You’ll see pretty mountain villages and spectacular views of the Melbourne skyline. Make a stop at Grant Reserve to hand-feed wild birds.
During the morning you’ll stop for a traditional Aussie snack of billy tea, Lamingtons (little sponge cakes dipped in chocolate and coconut) and vegemite crackers.
The next treat in store is a 30-minute ride on the Puffing Billy train, one of the world’s best preserved steam railways. This train with its characteristic red carriages is a century old and still running on its original mountain track through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges.
Departing from Belgrave at around 1025h (10:25am), you’ll trundle through lush forests full of ferns and soaring mountain ash. Enjoy stunning views and marvellous photo-opportunities from the open carriages.
Leaving the train at Menzies Creek, you’ll tour the Yarra Valley with its verdant hills and neat vineyards.
You can purchase your own meal at Rochfords Winery or you could bring along a picnic lunch to enjoy in the vineyards.
Your afternoon adventure is a visit to the award-winning Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary. Your guide will escort you through natural bushland that is home to over 200 species of Australian birds, mammals and reptiles. Meet koalas, kangaroos, wombats, emus, cockatoos, parrots and many more fascinating creatures. See shy platypuses at the famous nocturnal house and stroll through the large aviaries and pond areas. You’ll also get the chance to watch the amazing Eagles Fly demonstration within the sanctuary.
At the end of the excursion, you’ll return to Melbourne. You have the option of being dropped off at your city hotel or at a central location such as Federation Square or Swanston Street. Your driver will request drop-off locations towards the end of the tour.
