Wander through picturesque lanes discovering Melbourne’s rich and diverse café culture. Travel by tram to find cafés that other visitors, and even locals, may not know about.

During the tour you’ll find discover the history of Melbourne’s obsession for coffee which dates back to the 1830s when the first coffee houses appeared in the city. The drinking of coffee was actively promoted by the Temperance movement which aimed to wean Melbourne’s citizens off alcohol.

In the 1950s coffee drinking and café culture received another boost with the arrival of Expresso machines and an influx of European immigrants who appreciated good coffee. Today the eclectic café scene is catering to an increasingly sophisticated and varied clientele.

During the tour you will enjoy a range of tasty food samples, both sweet and savory. You can talk to the café owners and find out more about the thriving coffee culture of the city.

The tour ends at a local café after you have enjoyed a light lunch and perfectly brewed coffee.
