You will be picked up from your centrally located hotel in Ho Chi Minh City and taken for a journey of discovery to the Mekong Delta. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.
Depart Ho Chi Minh City for the city of My Tho (approximately 2 ½ hours). A former naval base, My Tho is now a bustling port city in the Mekong Delta, known as the ‘bread basket of Vietnam’. The area is the final destination of the mighty Mekong River which winds its way from Tibet, through China, Burma, Laos, Cambodia and finally Vietnam.
Upon arrival into My Tho you will board your private boat for a a cruise on the Mekong River . During the boat ride your local guide will take you to visit an island with lush tropical gardens where you have a chance to sample tropical fruit and witness a traditional music performance.
Continuing to another island in the Mekong Delta you will learn more about another cottage industry, coconut candy. You guide will take you to a factory and explain the process of making the sweet. Enjoy a chance to visit local villages in the area and learn more about the traditional lifestyles, culture and customs of people who call the Delta their home.
Continue your visit by a 20-minute horse and cart ride, visiting a bee farm where you transfer to smaller rowing boat allowing you to get deeper into the smaller canals of the Delta.
Stop for lunch at the Diem Phuong restaurant where your guide will provide you with some advice on the finer points of local cuisine and assist you with ordering some of these delicacies.
From (01 Jan 13) Rowing sampan along the canals under the green canopy of water coconuts trees would be included in the itinerary.
After lunch return to My Tho for the journey back to Ho Chi Minh City.
