Waimea Canyon and Wailua River Adventure

Hide Map

  • View the layers of unique geological history at this national park
  • Relax and enjoy the serene sites along the Wailua River

Carved by a combination of volcanic eruptions, rainwater erosion, and a deep incision by the Waimea River, it’s no wonder that Waimea Canyon’s diverse and unique origins have lured superstars for decades. Your tour begins at the canyon’s mouth with a tour of the Russian Fort. Expelled by King Kamehameha after an attempt at acquiring all the island’s sandalwood, the Russian traders who erected the fort left it half finished.

Waimea also promises a view of Spouting Horn, a lava rock formation that results in water being shot 50 feet in the air with every wave. Don’t miss the first sugar mill in the region, the Koloa Sugar Mill. View the landscape that is famed to resemble Queen Victoria and the stunning Nawiliwili Harbor. Board the spacious boat and float towards the Fern Grotto as you view the Coco Palms, the famous vacation spot for Elvis and Frank Sinatra, the site of royal Kauai births at the Birthstone and finally, Opekaa Falls.

You will be picked up from your hotel by an air-conditioned coach and taken on a Waimea Canyon and Wailua River Adventure tour.

This highly personalized scenic tour is fully narrated by a specially trained driver-cum-guide and features many stops to allow you to get the most from your day.

The tour will take you to the lip of the breathtaking Waimea Canyon. From there, tour the half finished ruins of the Russian Fort, the result of a trade deal that went awry between Russian traders and King Kamehameha I in the 19th century.

From there, you will watch the wave-driven Spouting Horn shoot salt water over 50 feet in the air and see the south coast Poipu Resorts.

Then view the remains of the Koloa Sugar Mill. Make sure to take in the rugged 30 foot smokestack from when sugar was the main cash crop of Kauai

See the rugged landscape that is said to resemble Queen Victoria.

View the Nawiliwili Harbor which was famously featured in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

From the harbor, board the spacious open air boat and coast along the Wailua River towards the famed Fern Grotto.
