Take a trip to the Al Bidya mosque, an important archaeological site that dates back to 1000 BC. Discover the 300-year-old Fort of Fujairah and the mountain dwellers’ ruins near the port towns of Khor Fakkan and Fujairah. You will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach from your hotel in Ras Al Khaimah or Umm Al Quwain and taken on a tour of the East Coast, and see how a flat desert landscape changes into spectacular hills. This impressive stretch of lush coastline makes a dramatic change, with steep mountains, sandy bays and beaches, ancient fortresses and date palm groves sloping down to the edge of the Indian Ocean. An English speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.
En route, you will see the agricultural areas of Al Dhaid. The terrain changes from a flat desert to spectacular hills. The coastline is dotted with small fishing villages, including the old village of Dibba, once a strategically important settlement that offers stunning views of the Persian Gulf.
Along the coastline, you will arrive at the oldest mosque in the country, the Al Bidya Mosque that was built in the 15th century. It is also known as the Ottoman Mosque, for the man who built it. Inside the mosque, you will come across a prayer hall with a prayer niche, a rostrum, arches and openings.
Next, you will pass through the port towns of Khor Fakkan and Fujairah and explore the ruins of the mountain dwellers who moved away from oil exploration to start a fishing village. Then visit the impressive 300-year-old Fort of Fujairah and the fortress nearby Bithnah oasis. Along the way, stop for lunch at a local restaurant (cost not included). Your last stop will be the Friday Market, where your can shop for pottery, carpets and range of traditional craftwork.
After exploring the colourful local market of the East Coast, you will be dropped back to the starting point of the tour.
