This night time walking tour of Madrid is laced with tales of mystery, legends and ghost stories. With the Myths and Legends Tour, wander through Madrid’s major buildings and monuments, illuminated under the night sky, while the English speaking guide will show you the other side of the city, which is more mysterious and where fact and legend entwine to stimulate the imagination as much as the eye.
Madrid is an old city. It has survived through civil and world wars, complete destruction and rebuilding, plagues, pestilence and, perhaps most significantly, the simple and slow passage of time. Every square, building, corner and alleyway has a story to tell. Delve yourself into these tales as well as enjoy the beauty of the city dazzled by the bright lights. And to end your night on a sweet note, indulge into a cup of hot chocolate and churros at the famous Chocolateria.
A Madrid known only by a few, this is your chance to discover this other side of the city. This walking tour of the lesser known sites promises to be highly informative and entertaining.
To start your Myths and Legends Tour, meet your English speaking guide at Plaza de Cibeles, from where s/he will take you for a walk to experience the beautifully lit buildings and monuments under the night sky. Some of the major highlights of the walk are Puerta de Alcalá, the Edificio de Correos and the Bank of Spain.
It is when you reach the church of San José, that the guide will narrate tales about mystery, legends, beliefs and the supernatural. It is here that the guide will share the story of the white rose, that how a romantic evening culminated in a funeral and a mystery.
Moving forward, the walk continues on to sights like the House of the Seven Fireplaces, where you will learn about the series of tragic events that have occurred since its construction in 16th century and the building has remained unoccupied for years. While standing in front of the building, don’t remove your gaze from the window as rumour has it that the locals have spotted a woman dressed in white with her hair blowing wildly in the wind.
During the course of the tour, enjoy stunning panoramic view of the Gran Viaand along Alcalá Street admiring the superbly illuminated buildings including the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Instituto Cervantes and the Casino of Madrid. The tales of mystery will continue with a visit to Puerto del sol and the clock that bells to usher the New Year in Madrid and was rumoured to play host to a devil, and Plaza Mayor with a grim history for being the principle site of public executions during the Spanish inquisition.
With so many mysteries and stories to take in, the tour may become too overwhelming. Therefore, a visit to the famous Chocolateria for a cup of hot chocolate and churros is the perfect way to call it a night.
