For your Auckland Harbour Cruise you should make your way to Pier 2, Ferry Terminal, 99 Quay Street, Downtown Auckland.
The crew will welcome you aboard the vessel. Sit back, relax and enjoy the live commentary during this 90-minute boat ride. You will also be served light refreshments – morning or afternoon tea – depending on the time of day. Choose from tea, coffee or juice and a selection of delicious muffins (morning) or cakes (afternoon).
You will head out of Waitemata Harbour past Bean Rock to Rangitoto Island, where you make a stop. The boat will then turn back in towards the city, passing Devonport and going under the Harbour Bridge before ending back at the starting point.
On the way, you will catch stunning views of the city and its iconic buildings, like the 328 metre-high Sky Tower. Special points of interest you will see include the following:
Bean Rock Lighthouse: This historic lighthouse at the entrance to Waitemata Harbour, was built in 1871.It appears on a well-known New Zealand beer brand!
Rangitoto Island: A volcanic island that erupted from the sea around about 600 years ago, and is now dormant. Its summit commands spectacular 360 degree views of Auckland and the islands of
the Hauraki Gulf. You will make a brief stopover here.
North Head, Devonport: North Head guards the entrance to the harbour and was made into an artillery battery in 1885 to defend Auckland from invasion.
Devonport Naval Base: The naval base in Devonport dates back
to 1840 when William Hobson, then Governor of New Zealand, arrived on the HMS Herald and established Auckland as New Zealand’s (short lived) capital.
Auckland Harbour Bridge: The Harbour Bridge opened in 1959
and took more than 200 workers nearly 4 years to build. Your cruise goes under the Harbour Bridge, a popular place for bungee jumpers.
Chelsea Sugar Refinery: Chelsea Sugar, one of New Zealand’s
iconic food brands, has been producing sugar at this refinery
Westhaven Marina & The Viaduct: The largest marina in the southern hemisphere, Westhaven can hold up to 1800 boats
of various sizes up to 28m.
