Overview

No less a writer than Rudyard Kipling once described Auckland as “Last, loneliest, loveliest, exquisite, apart”. And, while the city has certainly changed a lot since Kipling’s day, it still captivates visitors with the beauty and drama of its surroundings.

Discover the North Island capital for yourself and find out how Aucklanders live, work and play on this morning tour. Delve into the history, admire the famous landmarks and fine buildings, and experience all the sights and sounds of the “City of Sails”.

See the beautiful parks, posh suburbs, modern skyscrapers, and colonial architecture. Marvel at the astonishing variety of fish and seafood on display at the famous Fish Market.

Make sure you have your camera to capture the breathtaking views of the dramatic cityscape, the sweeping natural harbours and Hauraki Gulf islands.

Itinerary

For your Auckland City Sightseeing Tour you will be picked up from your hotel in Inner Auckland in a comfortable vehicle at around 0900h (09:00am).

Set off for a delightful half-day tour of vibrant, cosmopolitan Auckland. Your driver will give a commentary on the way.
Some of the highlights you will see include the following:

Auckland University: New Zealand’s largest university, founded in 1883 and originally housed in a disused courthouse and jail. One of its most famous buildings is the art nouveau Clock Tower, an Auckland landmark and icon of the University.

Auckland Domain: This is Auckland’s oldest park and one of the city’s largest. It contains the explosion crater and most of the surrounding tuff ring of the Pukekawa volcano. You will also find two beautiful glass houses in the Wintergarden.

Auckland Fish Market: The best selection of fish and seafood in Auckland.

Devonport: A harbourside suburb on the North Shore. Prominent landmarks include the elegant Esplanade Hotel built in the 1890s and the art deco Victoria Cinema built in 1912.

Harbour Bridge: This magnificent motorway bridge over Waitemata Harbour has shaped Auckland’s cityscape since it was opened in 1959. It connects St Mary’s Bay in Auckland with Northcote in North Shore City.

Ponsonby: An upmarket area full of boutiques, cafes, restaurants and galleries.

Queen Street: Colonial-era buildings where you find big-name designers and department stores.

Viaduct Harbour: A former commercial harbour now turned into a development of smart apartments, offices and restaurants.

There will be three stops along the way where you can get off the coach and look around. These will be at: Mt Victoria, Narrowneck Beach, and the Fishmarket.

At the end of the 3-hour tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
