There is so much to see, do and explore in this gorgeous place. Go swimming, sea kayaking or mountain biking. Or take a vineyard tour or a scenic coastal walk. Whatever you do, your day is sure to be delightful and memorable.

Itinerary

To catch your Ferry to Waiheke Island you should make your way to Pier 2, Ferry Terminal, 99 Quay Street, Downtown Auckland.

Allow at least half a day for your visit to Waiheke Island. If you can spare a whole day that would be better.

The ferry journey across Hauraki Gulf takes around 40 minutes and is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, affording great views of the coast and islands around Auckland.

When you arrive at Waiheke there are so many wonderful things to do. Some ideas are given below.

Beaches: Waiheke has several beautiful beaches, but the best ones for swimming are at Oneroa (the main town, close to the ferry terminal) and at Onetangi, a 20 minute bus ride away. Buses meet all ferries – follow the signs from the terminal to the bus stop.

Walks: Waiheke's coastline offers many beautiful walks with magnificent views of the surrounding islands and the Coromandel Peninsula. Two walks actually start close to the ferry terminal. Just follow the coast left or right as you leave the wharf and look for the yellow and green signs. A leaflet about walking routes is available at the Waiheke Ferry Terminal.

Wine Tasting: With more than 30 vineyards on the island, Waiheke offers visitors great opportunities for wine tasting (as well as superb vineyard restaurants).

Other activities: Other activities on the island include ocean kayaking and mountain biking.

Meals are not included in your ticket but Cafe and Full Bar facilities are available on board the ferry.
