Itinerary

For your Bay of Islands Treaty House and Dolphin Swim you will be picked up from your hotel in downtown Auckland at around 0730h (07:30am).

There are two options for this delightful tour. You can choose to have a picnic lunch included in the package or to buy your own lunch during the day.

Your route takes you across Auckland Harbour Bridge and north along the Hibiscus Coast to the Bay Of Islands. On the way you will make a stop at Kaiwaka for morning tea (payable direct).

Surrounded by white-sand beaches and pretty bays the Bay contains more than 140 islands and plentiful marine life. Seven hundred years ago it was the landing point for one of the large Maori migration canoes bearing members of the Ngapuhi Iwi (tribe). In 1769, it was visited by Captain Cook, who gave the area its name.

On arrival, you will be taken in a jet-powered catamaran into the National Maritime Park. Conditions permitting, you have the chance to get up close and even swim with dolphins in their natural environment – a wonderful opportunity to experience these magnificent mammals at play.

You will stop at Urupukapuka Island, where those who have not opted for the packed lunch can purchase a range of delicious snacks and meals at the Zane Grey Cafe.

You will also visit Waitangi, the “birthplace of the nation”. It was here that the Treaty of Waitangi was signed here in 1840. The Treaty was an agreement between the early European Settlers and the indigenous Maori people to establish New Zealand as a British Colony.

You will enjoy a guided walk at Waitangi Treaty House. Features of interest include:

The Treaty House: one of New Zealand's oldest historic homes.

Te Whare Runanga: fully carved Maori Meeting House.

• One of the world's largest Maori ceremonial war canoes.

• The Naval Flagstaff marking the place where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed.

• Waitangi Visitor Centre, with audio visual and live cultural performances.

At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at the starting point.
