  • 2 nights accommodation is included in traditional Berber Accommodation
  • The tour is led by an expert mountain guide

While in Morocco, spend two nights hiking through the Atlas Mountains, exploring the scenic valleys of the upper reaches.

Travel from Marrakech through many little hamlets and villages to the Berber town of Imlil which is known as Morocco’s ‘little Chamonix’ and is set in the upper foothills of the Western High Atlas Mountains. Take a walk along a ‘piste’ through fields of wheat and orchards of walnut, apple and cherry trees up to the Tizi n ‘Tamatert. Stop at a Tizi to admire the Imlil and Imenane Valleys, and see many Berber villages balanced precariously on the slopes.

Hike through the valley along mule trails to reach the oldest Berber village in the Toubkal Massif – Tacheddirt. Walk southeast from Tacheddirt past terraced villages and scenic mountainside to really appreciate the beauty of the Atlas Mountains. Eat at Berber villages, relax next to beautiful springs and hike past cornfields, orange groves and flowing rivulets.

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Imenane Valley - Tacheddirt

You will be picked up from your hotel in Marrakech at 0800h (08:00 am) and travel in a car, accompanied by an English-speaking guide. Drive over the Moulay Brahim Gorges and Upper Valleys way up into the foothills of the Western High Atlas ranges to arrive at our trailhead in the Berber village of Imlil (1740m). We set out along a piste for hike of around 2 hours towards the east up to the villages of Tizi n ‘Tamatert (2272m). Once through the village we shall take a path which leads us up though pine and juniper woods. We stop at the Tizi to admire the Imlil and Imenane Valleys, this latter with its many Berber villages tucked precariously onto the slopes stretching around us.

We carry on along the upper valley slopes to the villages of first Ouaneskra and then Amghedoul (2130m). Our afternoon will be spent hiking for some 3 hours up through the valley along mule trails until we reach Berber village in the Toubkal Massif - Tacheddirt (2291m), where we’ll overnight in a Gîte d’étape.

Day 2: Tacheddirt - Iaabassene - Timichchci

We start our 6 hour hike south-eastwards to the terraced village of Timichi. For 2½ hours we hike slowly up to the Tizi n’Tacheddirt (3200m), which affords us a stunning view of the Jebel Aksouâl (3842m), Bou Iguenouane (3882m) and Angour (3616m). We shall traverse the pass and continue on down through the rocks north-eastwards for a further 2 hours until we reach the Berber village of laabassene (2030m).

After a rest the afternoon’s 2 hour hike takes us up further to the northeast, down through the valley to the old village of Timichchi. Here we will stay overnight in a Berber family’s home.

Day 3: Timichchi - Isghouarne - Agadir n’Ait Boulmane - Settifadma – Marrakech

The day starts with a 4 to 5 hour hike eastwards, passing through the villages of Isghouarne and Agadir n’Aït Boulmane to arrive at the end of the beautiful Ourika Valley and the renowned Berber village of Setti Fadma. This villages is enchanting with its ancient nut trees and waterfalls. After a short time in the visit we will start hiking on for a further 30 minutes to rejoin our vehicle at 1430h (2pm) to take us back to Marrakech.
