    Overview

Relive Australia’s gold rush days on this trip to the open-air museum, Sovereign Hill. Located within the city of Ballarat, this award winning museum has attracted visitors of all ages. With streets lined with costumed workers, antiques, books, artwork and machinery from the 1850’s, it’s an impressive and almost accurate recreation of the Gold Rush days. You can even get a ride in one of the horse drawn carriages, borrow a colorful costume and if you are up to it, explore the glittering underground mines!

Take this tour and you will be drawn into Australia’s Gold Rush days at the interactive and unique museum of Ballarat.

    Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Melbourne and will travel in an air-conditioned coach to Ballarat covering a distance of about 140 kilometres. Listen to the expert commentary by English-speaking guide about Sovereign Hill which is an award winning museum. Stroll along streets lined with costumed workers and you will get a sense of Australia’s past. Check out the antiques and artwork and machinery from the 1850s and you can pick up interesting souvenirs too. You can even enjoy ride in one of the horse drawn carriages traversing the original route of the horse-drawn coaches or tour an underground gold mine (both payable direct). Enjoy the sight of busy craftsmen and the sound of the blacksmith’s hammer. If you have any questions, the costumed bystanders will be more than willing to answer.

Continue in the coach to see the attractions of Ballarat. Marvel at the impressive architecture of this city which became rich because of its golden era of prosperity. As the coach passes the Eureka Stockade Centre in Ballarat, listen to the commentary about one of Australia’s most notorious incidents that took place there. You will spend more time at the Sovereign Hill if you do not opt for the wildlife park.

If you have opted to visit the Wildlife Park, you will be taken to the park to see the Tasmanian Devil, emus and poisonous snakes. Also watch the fascinating sight of crocodiles being fed by the caretakers.

After this tour, you will be dropped back to your hotel in Melbourne where the tour ends.
