Take a trip to Murano for the exquisite glasswork, Burano for lace and Torcello for Venice’s first cathedral – the islands in the lagoon in Venice make for some very engaging sightseeing.
Murano has been producing beautiful crystal since the 10th century when Venetian traders brought back the secrets of production from the East. Burano with its pastel-coloured fishermen’s cottages is as pretty as the lace it is famous for. Beautiful mosaics at Torcello’s cathedral, Santa Maria Assunta, add to the beauty of this Byzantine structure.
This tour gives you the chance to explore the beauty and heritage of Murano, Burano and Torcello first hand.
The tour departs from Saint Mark’s Square, from where you will be taken to board your boat.
After sailing past the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the public Gardens, the tip of Sant'Elena and the Lido (the famous beach resort), the boat arrives at Murano, the most famous and most visited Venetian island for the exquisite glasswork produced here. You will take a tour of the Murano glass factory.
Proceed to the island of Burano, which is famous for its lace industry. This pretty fishing village has many streets and canals lined with bright, pastel-coloured houses.
Visit the delightful island of Torcello, home to Venice’s first cathedral. The cathedral, Santa Fosca, is a masterpiece with its mosaics and Byzantine structure.
After your tour, re-board the motor launch to cross the lagoon back to Venice. The tour ends at the original starting point.
Note: The tour includes the service of a specialized official tourleader which provides some information on board and assistance on the islands.
At last a tour that gives value for money, loads of historical interest well presented, beautiful countryside and a taste of fine wines....G. Williams
We probably could have spent a little more time at the glass and lace stops.... The trip was really great though. Thank you!...Carol L Judd
This tour was fantastic. The glass demonstration was fascinating to see. The other two islands are also beautiful, especially torcello. I would have liked slightly longer in each...MISS A S MULLEN
