Itinerary

The Gravediggers Ghost Tour of Dublin begins when you meet your guide at College Green Tourist office, outside of Ulster Bank. For more than 2 hours, you’ll be transported back to some of the darkest days of Dublin’s past. Throughout the evening, three professional actors will tell tales of various unfortunate souls, the times in which they lived and the fates they met. Just ignore the coughing and other unsettling sounds!

Traveling by double decker bus, you’ll pass Dublin Castle and Christ Church. The first stop is St. Audeon’s, Trinity College, where the plague house was in the 15th century. You’ll hear how plague victims tried to soothe their wounds in the city's drinking water. You’ll also learn of various schemes to keep the disease at bay and discover the fates of all those poor people who were infected. Many were ostracized, but some suffered an end much, much worse.

The second stop is Kilmainham Jail, the place where many condemned prisoners spent their last days before execution. Listen for strange noises, footsteps in empty stairwells and shadowy figures. Just be sure to keep an eye on the exit, as there's many an empty cell looking for fresh prisoners. You’ll meet the prisoner whose sentence has no end and listen to his accounts of the various ghosts that are said to haunt the place. You’ll also hear of the strange occurrences witnessed by the restoration society who have been working within the jail for the past 30 years.

After escaping the jail, visit Bully's Acre, where a graveyard was situated for more than 1000 years. Learn about strange events such as the account of General Dilks, commander of the forces in 1760, who started a battle after leveling some graves in order to build a botanical garden for the Royal Hospital. Hear ghoulish tales of body snatchers, including the story of a grave robber who met his end by the hands of the cemetery's watchmen.

Back on the bus, you’ll pass Croppies Acre and St. Michan’s, where hundreds of bodies lie in final, mummified peace. You’ll arrive at Prospect Square for a visit to Kavanagh's pub, where you’ll enjoy a Ghoulish Brew! Kavanagh’s, more commonly known as “The Gravediggers”, was a popular spot for body snatchers and “burkers” to grab a pint after a hard night’s work. The place got its name as it was customary to shovel dirt against the pub's wall to signify to the landlord that you wanted a drink. You’ll be regaled with legends and you might even catch a glimpse of the pub’s resident ghost enjoying his regular pint of Guinness!

The tour package also includes a free pass for the Dublin Haunted History Walking Tour (to be taken separately).

The tour ends as you are taken back to College Green. From there, you need to make your own way back to your accommodation.
