You will be picked up by bus from your Reykjavik hotel and taken to the geothermal area of Landmannalaugar, often called “The Pearl of the Central Highlands.” You will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide that knows all the secrets of the region.
Journey through the beautiful countryside of southern Iceland, where landscapes of bare and brilliant beauty spread out before you.
Proceed into the highlands through Þjórsárdalur valley and visit Hjálparfoss waterfall, a thunderous cascade near the confluence of two mighty rivers.
All around you are Landmannalaugar’s eye-catching mountains, whose peaks are flush with the colors of volcanic activity.
Stop for a relaxing soak in a warm natural pool, which is created by the convergence of hot and cold springs. Look out across this chapped, desolate expanse while you unwind in the surreal, bath-like waters (the use of soap is forbidden in the pool).
Your bus forges onward toward the west and past Iceland’s most infamous and active volcano, Hekla, which was believed to be the Gateway of Hell during the Middle Ages.
The volcano last erupted in 2000, blanketing the landscape with thick layers of ash and pumice.
You will be returned to your Reykjavík hotel over the Hellisheiði Mountain Heath.
