Explore the Tasmanian capital city of Hobart and learn more about its convict past on this tour. Australia’s second oldest city, Hobart lies at the flanks of the 1270 meter high Mt Wellington, skirting Derwent River. From majestic mansions to tiny little cottages and one of the finest deep-water harbours, Hobart will captivate you from the word ‘go’. Visit Battery Point, originally home to the worker’s and travel back in time as you walk along quaint narrow avenues lined with doll like houses.

Salamanca Place is the cultural hub of the city. There are dozens of cafes, restaurants, galleries and craft shops here and you can stroll around and pick up souvenirs or just absorb the atmosphere of Hobart. You will also visit the Female Factory, once a prison to house women convicts. End your tour with a stop at Rosny Hill lookout for a commanding view of Hobart and its scenic environs.

Please reach the departure point for this tour, Tasmanian Travel Centre, Corner of Elizabeth and Davey Streets in time to board the coach tram which will take you around the city. There will be some stops along the way where you will have the opportunity to get off the tram and visit the attraction.

The highlights of this tour include:

Sullivan’s Cove: This ferry terminal has great historical significance. It was here that the first settlement took place and thousands of convicts from England landed here.

Salamanca Pace: An old Georgian-style warehouse which after restoration houses restaurants, pub and galleries.

Princes Park: This was once a gun battery (a unit of guns grouped together for command and control).

Battery Point: Once a station of keeping arms and ammunition, today it is home to pubs, boutique shops and restaurants.

Parliament House: Parliament House has been the meeting place of the Government of Tasmania since 1841. The building was originally designed as a customs house, and from 1841 until 1904 when the customs offices were relocated, the building served both purposes.

St. David’s Cathedral: The St. David’s Cathedral in Hobart is the principal Anglican church in Tasmania. St David's is the Bishop of Tasmania's principal place of teaching. It is a cathedral because it is the place where the bishop's cathedra or seat is placed. It is also the venue for great occasions of diocese, city and state.

Cross the Tasman Bridge over Derwent River and see panoramic views over Kangaroo Bay Marina and Bellerive.

Visit the remains of the Female Factory, once a fudge factory and prison for women and stop at the Rosny Hill Lookout for stunning views of Hobart and Sandy Bay.

After the tour, you will return to the original departure point where the tour ends.
