You will be picked up from your hotel in the Adelaide metropolitan area by your 4WD driver/guide and taken to the Coorong National Park.
Travel through the Adelaide Hills, passing historic townships and areas important in aboriginal tradition. Emerging from the hills, you arrive at Lake Alexandrina where the Murray River spreads out before ending its journey to the sea. Along the shores of Lake Alexandrina you will pass Poltalloch Station, an historic homestead with all the grandeur of a bygone era. This road brings you to Narrung, the site of Australia’s only inland lighthouse. Enroute, enjoy some refreshing morning tea.
From here, you follow some of the back roads to arrive at the Coorong, one of the world’s most significant wetlands. This narrow neck of water is of great importance both in aboriginal culture and to the multitude of birds that live here or migrate through the region.
The 4WD track through the Coorong National Park takes you through a habitat rich in wildlife, scenery and history.
Having travelled through the land of the Ngarrindjeri people, you now arrive at Camp Coorong. Here you will meet the traditional people of this country. They will share with you stories of their history and their culture, their beliefs and traditions. While at ‘Camp Coorong’ you will have the opportunity to join a traditional basket-weaving workshop and try your hand at learning the local skills. A ‘Dreaming’ presentation will help you share some of their traditions. Learn of the local plants that are used as food and medicine and experience some of the art, craft and history of the Ngarrindjeri people. Your experiences at ‘Camp Coorong’ will provide you with the most comprehensive insight into the diverse life and living culture of Australia’s aboriginal people.
Lunch will be at Camp Coorong.
At the end of the tour, you will dropped back at your hotel in Adelaide.
