There are two options for your Catamaran Cruise to Watch Whales & Dolphins. You can choose to be picked up from Puerto de la Cruz, or from Adeje. If you start from Puerto de la Cruz the tour will take approximately 8 hours including hotel pick-up and drop-off. If you start from Adeje the tour takes approximately 5 ½ hours.
After pick-up, you will be taken to Puerto Colon (Port Columbus) to board your catamaran. You will then sail off towards the imposing cliffs of Los Gigantes on the western side of Tenerife.
Los Gigantes is famous as a place where whales and dolphins are often seen. Indeed, the coast of Tenerife is a truly outstanding place for whale-watching as there are colonies of pilot whales and dolphins which stay here throughout the year. They live so close to the coast that Tenerife has become one of the most popular places in Europe for watching whales in the wild.
You can find up to 21 different species of whales and dolphins (cetaceans) in these waters, ranging from giant blue whales to the killer whales. The two resident populations (the pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins), can be observed on perhaps 80 per cent of the days of the year. (Pilot whales are actually a type of dolphin rather than a whale.)
Whale and dolphin behavior you might see on the tour includes: jumps, spraying water from blowholes, slapping the water, coming up for a ‘look-see’ (known as ‘spying’), or whales or dolphins blowing bubbles.
Your ultra-modern catamaran has a glass bottom which allows you to get fantastic views of the whales and dolphins as they swim around and under the boat. Or, if you prefer to observe from the upper deck, the catamaran is provided with under-water cameras. Your guide will give you a commentary on what you can see.
As well as watching out for the whales, you can enjoy sunbathing on deck and will also have the chance of a swim at Masca, one of the most picturesque parts of Tenerife.
You will also be served a delicious buffet lunch on board the catamaran. This will include: meatballs with sauce, potato salad, vegetables, bread and fruits. (A vegetarian option is also possible). Free drinks such wine, beer or lemonade will be available from the well-stocked bar.
At the end of the 4 ½ hour cruise, you will be driven back to Puerto Colon, where you will be picked up in a coach and taken back to your hotel.
