You will be picked up from Plaza Europa/ Tourism office at 08:50am. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, you will be taken in an air-conditioned coach to the train station to take a train ride to Montserrat Monastery. Train will take you up to an altitude of 2400ft to the monastery.
It takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the monastery and you will enjoy spectacular views along the way.
On arrival you are free to explore the Monastery of Montserrat, an 11th century Benedictine monastery. The new monastery was built in the 19th century and is home to one of the famous ‘Black Madona’ statue which according to legend was originally carved by St. Luke is what everyone is coming to see and should not be missed. The Benedictine Monk retreat at Montserrat offers you some of the most spectacular mountain views of Catalunya.
A highlight of any visit to Montserrat monastery is the opportunity to listen to the famous The Escolina Boys Choir performances of Gregorian chants and other genres of religious choral music. The performances can be heard free of charge in the Basilica at 13:00 daily with the exception of Christmas holidays, July and some other festive periods during the year.
Liquors are produced on the mountain and you will allow you to sample these.
You will also be able to enjoy an audio-visual presentation which documents the history of Montserrat or simply enjoy the wonderful views.
If you wish you can take a second train ride to the summit of Montserrat and enjoy the splendid scenery. Montserrat rises over 1200 metres and provides great views of the countryside around (Funicular Railway payable directly).
At the end of a splendid day you will return to the original departure point.
