You will discover Picasso’s Barcelona with an expert guide on your Barcelona walking tour.
Your tour starts with a walking tour through bohemian Barcelona where Picasso lived and worked. One of the first points of interest you will pass is Els Quatre Gats; this is a modernist café-bar tucked away in one of the hidden backstreets. Els Quatre Gats was a popular haunt for the young Picasso in the early 1900's. He undertook his very first commissioned job designing the front cover of the restaurant’s menu.
As your Barcelona walking tour continues you will pass the College of Architecture where your guide will point out the friezes which Picasso designed to decorate the outside of the building. Carry on past the Sala Pares; the celebrated Barcelona art gallery where Picasso had his first show and the Carrer de la Plata where Picasso had his first Barcelona studio.
Your route will then take you along Carrer Avinyo, this is the main thoroughfare through the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona and was a favourite hang-out for artists and painters during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.
Leaving Carrer Avinyo you will pass through Porxos d’en Xifre where Picasso’s family set up home when they first arrived in Barcelona, you will also pass the Barcelona Stock Exchange en-route to La Ribera which is the affluent area of ancient Barcelona.
In La Ribera you will enjoy the highlight of your Barcelona walking tour; a guided tour of the Picasso Museum. The Picasso Museum Barcelona contains nearly 4000 works from the legendry artists early career. It was Picasso’s wish that after his death these works be displayed in the city which he held in such high esteem.
Your tour ends at the Picasso Museum and you are free to stay inside and explore further.
