This thrilling four-day cultural adventure takes you ‘on the road less traveled’ into the beautiful Nausori Highlands.
For four days you will live more or less Fijian-style. You will walk on authentic local trails, sleep on the floor in cosy dormitories in Fijian homes and eat lovingly prepared Fijian food.
You will walk through luxuriant rainforests, see tropical birds, bathe in sparkling rivers and join the locals on fishing expeditions. Everywhere you go you will be made welcome and will experience the traditional Fijian rituals and courtesies.
Your Trek Guides will be Fijians, native to the highland province. They act as interpreters, highlight issues of historical and cultural significance, show you ancient herbal medicines, Fijian cooking style, and forest foods and will ensure your itinerary proceeds smoothly.
The itinerary leaves enough time for rest and recreation – to talk to the locals and discover their unique culture. Evenings will be spent with the villagers, drinking “yaqona” (Fijian traditional drink made from grounded pepper roots) and singing with your new friends.
The exciting Nausori Highlands 4-Day Trek is an authentic Fijian cultural experience. You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable local English-speaking guide and horses will be available to carry your packs.
At the start of the trek guests will be picked up from selected hotels in Nadi.
After leaving Nadi you will be driven to Rakiraki province where you will have lunch in a hotel. You then continue to Nauria village (elevation 1,500ft) where the trek begins. You will trek to Nasukamai Village, arriving around 1700h (5:00pm). After meeting the villagers you will have the chance to have a look around the village and can then rest before dinner.
Dinner will be a traditional Fijian meal. Main meals on the trek will include eggs, chicken or meat or fish.
You will stay the night in Nasukamai in cosy dormitory-style accommodation in a Fijian home. You will sleep “Fijian style” on the floor which has been padded with dry grass and covered with Fijian mats. You will bathe in the cool fresh rivers. Toilets will be practical pit toilets. Lighting will be electrical or benzene lights.
After breakfast trek to a waterfall for a refreshing swim then return to the Village for lunch. Rest, then continue the trek to Sawanivou Village arriving around 1730h (5:30pm). You will participate in the preparation of the famous "Lovo" Dinner (cooked in a traditional Fijian earth oven), preceding which will be a small welcome ceremony “sevusevu”.
You will stay the night in Sawanivou. Accommodation and facilities as on Day 1.
After breakfast enjoy fishing with locals and have lunch on the river bank. Travel via bamboo raft to Wairuku. Trek to Nalalawa arriving around 1800h (6:00pm). (If water level low then raft journey may not be possible and you will trek direct to the village).
Meet Village people, rest then prepare for dinner and evening entertainment village style.
You will stay the night in Nalalawa. Accommodation and facilities as on previous days.
Have breakfast at Nalalawa then board a local bus for Nadi at 1400h (2:00pm). En route enjoy local sites and have lunch at Lautoka township.
At the end of the tour you will be driven back to your hotel in the Nadi area.
The trek was simply amazing and one of the best travel experiences we have ever had. As travellers who have been all over the world, we found this unique insight into the lives... Simon Crabb

In order to respect Fijian culture you are asked to observe the following points. Women should put on a Fijian “sulu” (a wrap-around skirt provided by your guide) before entering a village as it is considered disrespectful for women to wear shorts. While in a Fijian village, it is disrespectful to wear hats, sit on door-ways or stand up during the “sevusevu” ceremony to the village elders.
