You will be picked up from your hotel and taken in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle for a sightseeing tour of Maropeng in the Cradle of Humankind, including the world-famous Sterfontein Caves. A professional English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.
Arrive at the Maropeng Museum.
Upon arrival, a huge ancient burial mound (the Tumulus) comes into sight and from there on it’s one thrilling experience after another as the secret to man's ancestry is revealed.
The main attraction of this museum is the boat ride on its underground lake. It takes you through a sensory immersion of the four elemental forces of nature: earth, fire, water and ice. After having sailed past icebergs, volcanoes and braved curtains of water, molten lava, sheets of lightning and fire walls, you land on the other side, billions of years back, to the very birth of this planet - in time for an expedition of discovery.
The boat ride ends at the 2500sqm of underground exhibition space that brings the history of humankind alive by way of exciting exhibits that are entertaining, educational and interactive. See the original fossil display here.
Continue to the Sterkfontein Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just 10 kilometres away from Maropeng. The tour of the cave lasts just under an hour. It involves negotiating narrow passages and ducking sharp rock formations. There is an underground lake in the cave inhabited by shrimps.
Finally, end your tour with a unique dining experience at the acclaimed Carnivore Restaurant, that flanks the Museum along with a curio shop. The menu is a departure from the ordinary and offers exotic fares like crocodile, giraffe, kudu, ostrich and Blue Wildebeest among others are on the menu.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
