Overview

Steer through a curtain of clouds as you travel to the third highest pass in the world, Sani Pass, and thereon to the 'Kingdom in the Sky', Lesotho, on an exhilarating trip to the Drakensberg Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Sani Pass is a spectacular mountain road and is the entry point into Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho from South Africa’s Natal Drakensberg Park. This highest pass in South Africa is the gateway to the ‘Roof of Africa’ scenic route that links the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg with the mountains of northern Lesotho.

Travel past streams, forests and cultivated fields in the Midlands and the quaint Underberg town. On reaching the spectacular Drakensberg Mountains area, a 4WD drive takes you literally up in the clouds!

Visit the dwelling of the Sotho people, inhabitants of this beautiful, desolate region and enjoy their warm hospitality.

Like a painter’s canvas, the picture of the towering Drakensberg Range cloaked in clouds and the quaint Lesotho village makes this an out-of-the-world experience!

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel/closest pick-up point and taken in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle to Lesotho and the Sani Pass, often called the 'Roof of Africa'. A professional English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.

A scenic drive from Durban through the Natal Midlands takes you to the beautiful Underberg area where you will be transferred to a 4x4 vehicle for the ascent of the spectacular Sani Pass. This Pass climbs 1300m over a distance of 12km, into the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.

Discover the rustic charm of the second largest ethnic group in South Africa - the Sotho people - who reside in this region.

See Lesotho from a different angle and visit a market here. The Sotho people are gifted craftsmen and you can pick up some local craft. Tuck into some delicious lunch enroute at a local restaurant. Experience the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains.

After lunch return to Underberg where you will re-board your luxury vehicle for the journey back to Durban.

At the end of this tour, you will be dropped back to your hotel/closest point in Durban.

I am very happy with the overall experience...The trip was great. I did not like to have to call the tour operators to confirm the tour, that was a little bit annoying  Sometimes... Maria R Jimenez
