For all snow activity enthusiasts, a package with the Villmark Lodge in Ljørdalen is a great idea! Set amongst lush pine forest at the banks of river Ljøra and surrounded by mountains, the Villmark Lodge is a true romantic hideaway. Learn the essentials of handling the dogs and the sled, harnessing and taking care of your assigned dogs and building a good rapport with your team.

Drive your own sled through the breathtaking scenery of winter Norway. Pass through deep forests, cross frozen lakes and rivers, and discover the stunning scenery of wild mountains, remote and endless highland plains.

Set out on snowmobile safaris into the Swedish-Norwegian mountains and see white mountains rise majestically up to 1000 meters on both sides of the trail. With a range of snow activities such as skiing and tobogganing, this will truly be a great winter excursion in Norway!

Itinerary

Day 1: Saturday

Make your own way either by car directly to Ljørdalen or by coach transfer (to be booked separately) from Oslo City Bus Terminal or Airport Oslo-Gardermoen to Trysil and further to Ljørdalen. Lying right at the Swedish border and in the heart of a spectacular mountain area, the tiny village of Ljørdalen is situated 37 kilometres from Norway’s most famous and biggest skiing area, Trysil.

In Ljørdalen you will be warmly welcomed at the Villmark Lodge. Villmark Lodge is a cosy resort accommodation built in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings and out of the local building materials, timber and glass. The Lodge consists of 10 free-standing cottages (double houses) with 2 private apartments each and a central building with reception, a cosy restaurant with fireplace, bar, billiard table, darts and table tennis. Furthermore, the resort features a centrally located complimentary sauna. The spacious apartments are suitable for up to 4 guests. They are furnished in typical Norwegian style and offer a private entrance, 2 bedrooms (1 double / 1 bunk bed), a separate bathroom, a cosy living area, TV, and an open gallery. Bed linen, towels and cleaning fee are included. Pets are welcome.

Your package includes daily breakfast, lunch package and dinner, throughout your stay.

Day 2: Sunday: Dog Sledding Safari (approx. 10-15 kilometres)

After breakfast you will be taken to the Villmark Husky Farm situated just a few kilometres outside the village of Ljørdalen in the hills.

Your dog sledging tours start from the Villmark Husky Farm, it will take you about 10-15 minutes to reach here. An experienced multilingual guide speaking English, Norwegian and German, will give you a comprehensive introduction into dog sledding. After which, you will be able to familiarise yourself with the dogs, learn their names, harnessing and handling of the dogs and the sled. Soon you will be able to harness the dogs by yourself and drive your own dog sled with 4 to 6 huskies on a short trail over the fields and through the forests around the husky farm.

Day 3: Monday: Dog Sledding Safari (approx. 15-30 kilometres)
Today you will explore on exciting trails the magnificent environment and pristine nature around the husky farm and at the edge of Fulufjäll National Park. Depending on weather conditions and the skills of your group, you will drive between 15 and 30 kilometres today.

Day 4: Tuesday

Today you will enjoy skiing and tobogganing in and around Ljørdalen and Fulufjell Alpinsenter. Here you will find 8 downhill slopes of each level, two lighted slopes, a ski school, Norway's longest toboggan run and about 40 kilometres of cross country tracks. Ski pass, equipment and bob-sled are included. You may change your equipment (and your style of skiing) for alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing all day long – as many times you like. Alternatively, if you do not want to go skiing, you can participate in ‘Nordic Olympic Games’ with lots of different activities that are held around a genuine Sami tent on the property of the Husky Farm/Villmark Lodge.

Day 5: Wednesday
Today is a free day for you and the huskies. If you don't want to simply relax there are plenty of optional activities to choose from such as cross country skiing, a snowmobile safari, a guided tour with snow-shoes, a moose safari on cross country skies or tobogganing on Norway's longest toboggan-run, alpine skiing (all payable direct).

Day 6: Thursday: Snowmobile safari (approx 60 kilometres)

After breakfast, start your first snowmobile safari into the snowy Swedish-Norwegian mountain paradise. You will be transferred (approx. 30 minutes) across the border to the nearby Swedish village of Gördalen.

After instructions by the guide on how to drive and handle a snowmobile, you will travel into the wilderness. At first, drive along frozen rivers through the valley passing romantic red painted cottages and wide-stretched forests. Finally, you will reach the highlands and travel over frozen lakes and endless highland plains. Once in a while, you can make a stop to enjoy the great views and the breathtaking beauty of this unspoilt wilderness. In the afternoon, return to the Villmark Lodge.

Day 7: Friday: Snowmobile safari (approx 60 kilometres)

Today your guide would have selected some of the most spectacular snowmobile trails of the area and will travel with you through the Swedish mountains and valleys. Your starting point is the tiny village of Gördalen at the Swedish border. Experience the fun of riding a snowmobile over frozen lakes and endless plains in a spectacular environment. If you are lucky, you might even see some moose or other wildlife along the trail.

With many unforgettable experiences and memories of a great adventure you will return in the afternoon to Gördalen where you will be picked up and transferred to the Villmark Lodge. Here you will have a great last night together with your co-travellers and new friends, reviewing the unforgettable experiences of the week.

Day 8: Saturday
After breakfast at the lodge, you will be depart either with your own car or by coach transfer (to be booked separately) via Trysil to Oslo or Airport Oslo-Gardermoen.

Minimum age for steering an own dog sled is 18 years. 16 years if accompanied by an adult. Minimum age for steering a snowmobile is 18 years (driving license required, see below). This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 16 years.
An insurance that covers eventual damage to the snowmobile (collision damage waiver) is included in the rate.
Booking of single rooms: 2 single rooms share an apartment (double house half). Each guest has his own private bedroom.
Please advise your body weight and age at time of booking.
The Itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions and skills of the group.
Lunch packages must be prepared by the guests themselves at breakfast.

Here are up to 16 daily connections by “Trysilekspressen“ (Bus No. 130) between Oslo City Bus Terminal (Bussterminal Galleriet) and Trysil. The coach also stops at the International Airport Oslo Gardermoen. The coaches used by NOR-WAY Bussekspress are comfortable with ample legroom, reclining seats and air-conditioning.
Duration of travel: From Oslo City Bus Terminal: approx. 3 ½ hours, from airport Gardermoen: approx. 3 hours.

This tour is suitable for everyone who has a reasonable level of fitness. An average level of fitness is required for the dog sledding tours as dog sledding can be exhausting for the musher depending on the weather and snow conditions. It might be necessary to assist the dogs when climbing up a hill.
Lunch packages must be prepared by the guests themselves at breakfast.
