Take an early morning walk around the nature treasure trove that is the tribal district of Rotorua. Follow your naturalist guide to hear the dawn chorus of the endangered species of Bird called the Kokako.
Spend the morning listening to their beautiful songs and if you’re lucky, you might just catch sight of one of these rare endangered species of bird. Learn about the successful work being undertaken to protect these endangered birds and their rainforest habitat.
You will be picked up from your accommodation and taken to your departure point of your tour. Join your coach to start your "Rotorua Kokako Spotting" tour. Take an early morning walk with your local guide to to experience the New Zealand rainforest dawn chorus.
On the way, listen to the hauntingly beautiful song of the kokako, chime of the bellbird, melodious tui, and other rainforest bird song of the dawn chorus. If we are lucky If we are lucky a robin, fantail, grey warbler, tomtit or whitehead may greet us on the track, looking for insects we may have disturbed.
Enjoy the encounter, for some of these birds are no longer plentiful in North Island forests. On the walk learn of the successful work being undertaken to protect these endangered birds and their rainforest habitat.
