For your Christchurch Attractions Tour you will be picked up from your hotel at around 0900h (09:00am) and will travel in a comfortable coach.
The tour takes you to three of Christchurch’s top attractions. First stop is the International Antarctic Centre, a winner of the New Zealand Tourism Board's award for 'Best Visitor Attraction'.
The Centre recreates the atmosphere of Antarctica providing an interactive experience of the Southern Continent. This includes: the indoor Snow & Ice Experience; the Penguin Encounter which is New Zealand's first combined indoor/outdoor penguin viewing area featuring little blue penguins; and an exhilarating outdoor adventure ride in the Hagglund, a genuine Antarctic all-terrain vehicle.
You can also experience a 3D movie, with 4D special effects including falling snow, water in your face, wind in your hair, low fog in the theatre, smell, seat vibration and sudden drops, leg tickers, dramatic lighting and much more!
Your tour then moves on to Willowbank Wildlife Reserve where you meet a large variety of bird and animal life. Meet creatures unique to New Zealand like the kiwi, kea (a mountain parrot), tuatara (a reptile), long-finned eels and takahe (the world’s largest species of rail). You will also see introduced animals like deer, ring-tailed lemurs, possums and Asian small-clawed otters, as well as domestic animals like goats, llamas and bantams. You can enjoy feeding and petting animals throughout the reserve and also experience fascinating aspects of Maori culture.
After Willowbank, the tour heads to the Air Force Museum at Wigram, New Zealand's original Air Force base. The Museum’s role is to preserve and present the history of New Zealand’s military aviation through its collection. It has 28 fully restored aircraft together with newly refurbished static and interactive displays.
