The tour starts from 26, Damrak in Amsterdam. You will first travel in a coach, accompanied by a guide, through the old and new parts of the city where you will see most of the important landmarks. You will see:
• The Royal Palace: Originally built as the city hall for the magistrates of Amsterdam, it is now used mainly for official state functions.
• The National Monument: A tall obelisk built as a homage to the victims of WWII. The two lions that stand beneath are the heraldic symbol of Netherlands.
• The Skinny Bridge: A traditional double-leaf, Dutch draw-bridge, also called Magere Brug. It connects the banks of the river Amstel and opens every twenty minutes or so to let boats through.
• The Albert Cuyp Market: Considered by many to be the best-known and busiest outdoor market in Europe.
On your way out of Amsterdam drive along the canal where you will see some beautiful houses that line the canal banks and also visit a diamond factory.
In contrast to the city, your tour will then take you through the Dutch countryside to Zaanse Schans, a well-known windmill village. After a stop for photos of the windmills, you continue to the fishing villages of Volendam and Marken which are famous for their wooden houses and colourful local attire. On the way you will stop at a cheese farm where cheese is still made in the traditional way.
The tour ends at 26, Damrak.
