Airport in Manaus
See the famous Meeting of the Waters, where the black waters of the Negro River meet the white waters of the Solimoes River, flowing side by side without mixing for several miles. The sharp contrast between muddy and clear waters is a sight rarely seen elsewhere.
Manaus is also place for one of the most endangered primates in Brazil: the Pied tamarin.
Explore riverbanks and "igarapes", swim and canoe in placid lakes or simply walk in the lush forest. The more adventurous can venture deep into the jungle and experience the Brazilian Amazon and all its flora and fauna face-to-face.
Day 1: Arrive in Manaus
You will be picked up from the Manaus airport and taken to the Hotel Tropical Manaus. Check into your hotel.
You are at leisure for the rest of the day. Tropical Manaus (5-star) is one of the largest luxury hotels in Brazil and is nestled in the biggest ecological reserve in the world: the Amazon Rainforest. It is situated on the banks of the Negro River, just 10 km from Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes International Airport and 16 km from downtown Manaus. All the 601 comfortable rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, in-room safe, blackout curtains, smoke detector, mini bar, in-room music, direct dial local and long distance telephone and cable TV. For dining, Tropical Manus offers Tucano Coffee Shop, with a la carte and buffet and Brazilian and international cuisine specialties. Another option is Karu Grill Tropical Restaurant that serves exotic and regional dishes.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Meeting of the Waters
After breakfast, you will be taken for a full day sightseeing tour of the Meeting of the Waters.
Depart in a regional boat and travel along the Rio Negro river. Heading down stream on the Rio Negro, you will pass the city of Manaus, the Manaus Floating Harbour, the Municipal Market and finally, the Meeting of the Waters, where the waters of the Solimões river and Rio Negro river join one another, creating the Amazonas river. This is the most famous attraction outside Manaus, some 10 km downstream. For several kilometers beyond the point where they join, the waters of the two rivers continue to flow separately: the muddy yellow of the Solimões contrasting sharply with the black of the Rio Negro. It's a strange sight, and one well worth seeing.
After that, stop at the Ecological Park, where you can find the famous aquatic plant - Victoria Regia, aquatic plants native to lakes in the rainforest. The ecological park (Parque Ecólogico Janauary) is some 7 km from Manaus, on one of the main local tributaries of the Rio Negro. You'll be transferred to smaller motorized canoes to explore its creeks (igarapés), flooded forest lands (igapós) and abundant vegetation. One of the highlights of the area is the abundance of Victoria Regia, the extraordinary giant floating lily for which Manaus is famous.
Following that, you will visit a handicraft fair where Native Indians sell their creations, utilizing traditional materials such as feathers, bones and seeds.
Lunch (payable direct) is at the floating port, where big ships dock.
Return to your hotel.
