The Niah National Park, Sarawak is the site of the Niah Caves, one of the largest limestone caves in the world. The Park covers 7,756 acres of forest and limestone. The peak of Gunung Subis, which is 394 meters high, dominates the landscape. In fact, the prehistoric Niah Caves are famed for their role as one of the birthplaces of civilisation in Asia. The oldest human remains were found in Niah making the park one of the most important archaeological sites of the world. One may explore the vastness of the Great Cave, where archaeologists have discovered evidence of man's existence in Borneo dating as far back as 40,000 years ago. On display are the skull of a young Homo Sapien, some tools made out of stone, bone and iron, and cave drawings.


Day 1:

You will be picked up from your hotel in Miri in the morning after breakfast and taken on a scenic countryside drive to Niah National Park. Situated approximately 110 kilometres away, the drive will take you through oil palm plantations and local pepper farms and villages.

On arrival at the Niah National Park, you will register at the Park headquarters and check in at the National Park chalet. After lunch and a short rest you will set out for a short walk on one of the trails available at the park. Lunch/ dinner will be at the Niah canteen. Overnight at the Park Chalet.

Day 2:

Breakfast and then take the longboat ride at Pangkalan Lobang to cross the river where you will start with a visit to the Niah Archaeological Museum first. The prehistoric Niah Caves is famed for its role as one of the birthplaces of civilisation in Asia. The oldest human remains were found in Niah making the Park one of the most important archaeological sites of the world.

Tour of the cave will take you through the Great and Painted Caves as well as allowing you to witness the age-old remnants of bird’s nest harvesting equipment inside the cave (now a government controlled activity). Tour into the caves will take approximately 3 hours. Stop over at Niah Park canteen for a local lunch before your return to Miri. Arrive back at the hotel around 1800h (6:00pm).
