The Snorkeling at Gaya and Sapi Islands Tour from Kota Kinabalu is available in two options – coach and private. The private option offers you greater flexibility and you can spend as much or as little time at any of the places that you visit. Unlike coach tours, which have tight schedules, the private option allows you to do the tour at your own pace.
At the start of the tour you will be picked up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu in an air-conditioned coach/ private vehicle and taken to the jetty to catch a motor boat to Gaya Island. Gaya is the largest island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park in Sabah. A guide will go with you on this excursion.
Gaya is a beautiful island fringed with forest and surrounded by crystal clear waters and stunning coral gardens. Upon arrival, you can take a stroll with your guide through the lowland dipterocarp forests and unspoilt tropical rainforest.
On the way you will learn about tropical hardwood trees, discover fascinating facts about medicinal and other useful plants, and hear about the various animals that inhabit the forests. You will also have a chance to follow a plank walk through the coastal mangrove swamps and find out about the ecology of this fascinating and important habitat.
Afterwards, you will be transferred by boat to the opposite island, Sapi Island (at low tide you can wade across). Enjoy a barbecue lunch then the rest of the afternoon is free for you to swim or snorkel off the beach and discover coral and marine life in the enticing waters of the South China Sea.
Return to the jetty by a motor boat. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
