This alone gives Bethany profound religious significance, however it was also the place where the first five apostles met and where the foundations of the early Christian faith were laid. Ancient prophets and biblical personalities including Moses, Joshua and Elijah are also associated with Bethany.
Take a tour of the religious sites of Bethany to explore firsthand the foundations of Christianity. Entrance fees to all sites are included and you have the choice to explore the sites independently or enlist the services and knowledge of a local guide.

Less than 2 kilometers east of the Jordan River lies the settlement of Bethany, an important place associated with the lives of Jesus and John the Baptist. Bethany also had many associations with ancient Biblical prophets and personalities including Moses, Joshua and Elijah.
The small natural hill forming the core of Bethany is called Elijah's Hill, or Tell Mar Elias in Arabic. Local tradition for thousands of years has identified it as the place from where Elijah ascended to heaven
The hillock is now the focal point of the Baptism Site and is covered with the remains of a Byzantine monastery with churches, large plastered baptism pools with steps for full immersion and a water storage system. It is believed that it was here that Jesus was baptized by John.
From Bethany, you can enjoy fine views of the Dead Sea, Mt. Nebo, Jericho, Jerusalem and the Jordan River.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel in Amman or the Dead Sea area.
