You will be picked up from your hotel in a private air-conditioned deluxe car/mini van and taken on a city sightseeing tour of Amman.
On this tour you will:
• Admire the ruins of ancient Amman at the Citadel (Jebel al-Qala) which dates back to the Bronze Age. It was occupied by Romans, Byzantines and Umayyads for thousands of years. Visit the Roman amphitheatre, which is an impressive remnant of Philadelphia, as the city was known during the 2nd century A.D.
• View the impressive Umayyad Palace that dates back to 720 A.D.
• Explore the interesting artefacts on display at the Archaeological Museum, which houses the famous Dead Sea Scrolls and 6500-year-old statues.
• Visit the massive King Abdullah I Mosque, which has an unmistakable blue dome and an octagonal prayer hall without pillars. The mosque is open to non-Muslims.
Later, explore the contrasting Old and New Amman. Like Rome, the city is built on seven hills and showcases an enchanting mixture of cultures and traditions as they evolved over the centuries. Gleaming white houses, kebab stalls and cafés are interspersed with bustling markets — known in Arabic as souks — and the glorious remnants of ancient and medieval civilizations.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel in Amman.
