Set out on a wine tasting tour to the wine-rich regions of Italy: Avellino and Vesuvius.

Avellino is also known as the land of ‘noble wines’. The area around the town of Avellino is steeped in the history and tradition of wine-making and the indigenous varieties of this region: Aglianico, Falanghina, Fiano, Piedirosso, Greco di Tufo and Coda di Volpe are used in the making of quality white and red D.O.C. wines, appreciated the world over.

Another legendary wine of the area, Lacryma Christi (Tears of Christ), is produced from the grapes grown on the fertile, volcanic soil on the slopes of Vesuvius and comes in red, white and rosé versions.

Taste the very potent grappa (firewater) of Vesuvius!

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel or cruise ship in Sorrento in a private air-conditioned car for your Wine Tasting tour in Avellino tour. A guide in your preferred language (Italian, English, German, French or Russian) will accompany you throughout the tour.

There will be stops made for refreshments and lunch (payable direct) during the tour.

The drive to Avellino is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. You’ll be given approximately 3 hours to spend in Avellino.

Afterwards, you’ll visit Vesuvius, a 1 hour drive from Avellino. You’ll have 2 hours to spend tasting wine at Vesuvius.

You can visit the vineyards in both these places to see how the wine is produced and naturally, have a taste. Have a browse around the cellars where some of the oldest vintages are stored and then enjoy a buffet of home-made goodies like bruschetta, and some locally produced cheese and ham. There is complementary wine tasting with local snacks (cheese and ham) at both locations, and complementary grappa tasting at Vesuvius.

You will be taken back to your hotel or cruise ship in Sorrento, where your tour ends.

Most cruise companies arrange their schedule so that ships dock around 0800h – 1200h to ensure that customers can have a full day’s sightseeing in the resort.
Guides are available in a range of languages (Italian, English, German, French. Russian is available on request). However, these are private tours, therefore the guide will be speaking only one language.
