  • Unmissable look at funerary art
  • See the abundance of sculptures, shrines and tombs designed by Italian artists
  • Learn about the history of Milan through its past citizens

The Cimitero Monumentale (Monumental Cemetary) is considered a real open-air museum of funerary art. The cemetery serves as the final resting place of many notable figures, such as Arturo Toscanini, and has even housed the remains of Eva Peron and Giuseppe Verdi.

On this tour you will visit the impressive memorial chapel and walk the quiet lanes lined with tomb stones and evocative statues depicting death, loss and life.

Your visit to the Monumentale cemetery will allow you to look back at some milestones in the history of the city through the tombs of the most famous Milanese people.

Meet your guide at designated meeting points. Take your seat in the comfortable tour bus (Winter season only) and enjoy the drive to the Cimitero Monumentale.

Once there, you will enter through the Temple of Fame (Famedio) – a large Romanesque memorial chapel– and see tombs of the country’s most prominent citizens like the poet Salvatore Quasimodo and novelist Alessandro Manzoni.

Your guide will walk you through the cemetery and you will visit the most significant burials. You will have plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos of some of the most impressive sites. See the graves of famous Italian artists, composers, writers, actors and politicians and their elaborate tombs and shrines. The cemetery is famous for its lifelike statues depicting scenes of death and sorrow but also of love and compassion.

5:00pm: The tour ends upon returning to original departure point.
