Your private guide will meet you at your hotel. You will proceed on foot for your tour of Florence with a focus on Michelangelo and the Medicis.
Start with a visit to the Medici Palace. Built by architect Michelozzo for Cosimo the Elder between 1444 and 1460. The open courtyard is decorated with marble sculptures and the Medici coats of arms. From this elegant proportioned cloister, a stairway leads to the private family chapel whose walls are covered with frescoes depicting the journey of the Three Wise Men for Cosimo's son Piero.
Visit the The Medici Chapel. The colours, textile patterns and landscape of the chapel transfer you to a fairytale world. There are self portraits of the Medicis in the murals, portraits of the Emperor and Patriarch of Constantinople, portraits of Renaissance nobles related to the Medici family.
Continue to the San Lorenzo Church. See the crypt of the octagon Chapel of Princes and take the stairs to the New Sacristy, built by Michelangelo. See the famous sculptures by Michelangelo including the Madonna, the reclining figures of Night and Day and the Dawn and Dusk.
Lastly visit the Medici’s Chapel of the Princes. The octagon shaped chapel was made to impress and immortalize the image of the power of the Grand Dukes by the use of rare precious stones, available and affordable by a chosen few. See the life-size portraits sculpted in rare red granite. The coats of arms below the wall tombs that represent the subject cities of the Grand Duchy are all done in different colour stones cut and pieced together like a puzzle.
Your tour ends in the Chapel of the Princes at around 1200h (Midday).
