Overview

See the paintings and sculptures at the Galleria dell'Accademia and discover why Florence is known as the cradle of the Renaissance.

Situated in the heart of the city, the Galleria dell' Accademia houses Michelangelo’s David, one of the world’s most famous statues. The museum’s paintings and sculptures are a tribute to the Renaissance. Giambologna’s famous Rape of the Sabine Women, the Dispute of the Immaculate Conception by Carlo Portelli and other paintings and sculptures of the Renaissance exhibited here demonstrate the spirit of freedom and artistic expression which spread from Italy to the rest of Europe.

The Galleria dell' Accademia’s splendid collection of Renaissance paintings and sculptures is the hallmark of Florence.

Itinerary

Your guide will meet you outside the Galleria dell' Accademia at 1130h (11:30am).

Your expert guide will take you through the Galleria dell' Accademia. Founded in 1784, the museum houses paintings and sculptures by the great Florentine Masters of the 14th and 15th centuries whose works have made Florence the art capital of the world. The museum’s main draw is Michelangelo’s David, probably the most famous statue in the world.

The museum contains works of many of the Renaissance Masters of the 15th and 16th centuries, including Paolo Uccello, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Sandro Botticelli and Andrea del Sarto.

You will have a 1.5 hour guided tour after which time you are free to stay and explore at your leisure. The tour ends inside the museum.
