Activity Overview

High on the Western Ghats, the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful retreat a home to tigers, elephants and a variety of other wildlife, it is an attractive destination for those seeking natural beauty.

The scenic Periyar Lake in the middle of the sanctuary is a great place for boating and watching the elephants frolic. The vast calmness of the lake and the stark, skeletal remains of the trees that protrude from its waters give the area a primeval look. The mists that swirl ethereally over the water in the early morning heighten this impression.

This tour will also take you to a spice plantation where you can see how spices like pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, and nutmeg are grown.

Itinerary

Day 1

You will be picked up from your hotel in Cochin and travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to Periyar which is approximately 185 kilometres away. You will check in at Hotel Tree Tops, which lies within the sanctuary. You will stay in a deluxe room. The hotel has cottages and rooms with tiled roofs and un-plastered granite-stone exteriors which are reminiscent of colonial bungalows. The rooms are comfortably furnished and the multi-cuisine restaurant serves traditional Kerala cuisine and international fare. There is a separate kitchen in which vegetarian cuisine including Jain food is prepared.

Your package includes breakfast daily throughout your stay.

Enjoy a sumptuous meal of your choice and spend the night at the hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast, go on a boat ride around the scenic Lake Periyar. Enjoy the beauty of the waters and watch a variety of birds and other animals for whom the sanctuary is home.

In the afternoon, visit a spice plantation accompanied by a local English-speaking guide. Kerala is famous for spices and a visit to a spice plantation is an experience that you will never forget. Take a stroll in a spice farm and see how the spices are grown in different sections of the farm. Your guide will tell you more about the spices, their medicinal value and how different combinations yield totally different flavours. Periyar also has many plantations where cardamom, coffee and vanilla are grown.

Return to your hotel to spend the night.

Day 3

Today you will be driven back from Periya to Cochin. You will be dropped off at your hotel where the tour ends.
