Overview

Visit Kumarakom in Kerala on your trip to India and discover an India that is not all hustle and bustle and noise. Slender coconut palms, never-ending paddy fields, meandering lagoons and beautiful backwaters have earned Kumarakom, and indeed all of Kerala, the sobriquet “God’s own Country”.

Kumarakom lies on the shores of Vembanad Lake and is a picturesque village. The lake provides boating, fishing and sightseeing experiences that are truly exhilarating.

Another attraction here is the Kumarakom bird sanctuary. Spread across 14 acres, the bird sanctuary is a favourite haunt of migratory birds and an ornithologist's paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo, wild duck and migratory birds like the Siberian stork that live in flocks are to be found here.

Enjoy the sounds of bubbling brooks, the call of hundreds of exotic birds and the gentle lapping of oars in the calm backwaters on this tour to Kumarakom.

Itinerary

Day 1:

You will be picked up from the airport/your hotel in Cochin and travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to Kumarakom, a distance of approximately 95 kilometres. Check into Whispering Palms. You will stay in a garden-facing room. Whispering Palms is situated on the banks of the idyllic Vembanad Lake. It is the ideal place for relaxing and enjoying the tranquility all around.

The hotel has air-conditioned rooms which have a fine blend of ethnic ambience with modern amenities that include a television, mini bar and traditional Kerala-style furnishings. The hotel has a multi-cuisine restaurant.

Your package includes breakfast daily throughout your stay.

Day 2:
Spend the day at leisure and explore Kumarakom on your own. Visit the Vembanad Lake which is as an integral part of the backwater cruises in Kerala. Enjoy a boat cruise on the lake and spot a variety of birds at the bird sanctuary which lies on the eastern banks of the lake. You may also visit the backwater town of Kottayam, famous for its rubber plantations and old churches.

Spend the night at the hotel.

Day 3:
After breakfast, you will depart for Cochin and be dropped at your hotel/the airport where the tour ends.
