You will be picked up from your hotel/guesthouse at 0830h (08:30am) and taken on a guided coach tour of the Iceland Sagas. (For language preference of the guide, please refer to the "Please Note" section below.)
The tour will start from the Icelandic Settlement Centre,, the setting for the Iceland Sagas. Situated in the picturesque township of Borgarnes on the west coast of Iceland, this area is the setting for Egils Saga, one of the most graphic of the settlement sagas, and this historical context combined with the spectacular natural beauty of the site make it the perfect location for the Centre.
After a visit to this informative venue, you will follow the footsteps of the Viking warrior poet Egil Skalla-Grimsson and learn of his feats and exploits as you travel through the countryside where he grew up and later ruled as a chieftain.
Continue the tour as you learn about the saga of Gunnlaug Serpent-Tongue (Gunnlaugs saga Ormstungu), which commenced in the upper reaches of this fiord.
Visit Reykholt, the homestead where Snorri Sturluson lived and wrote much of the literature that made him the most significant Nordic poet of the Middle Ages. Here, you will also visit Snorrastofa, a cultural centre and an institution for research in medieval studies erected in memory of Snorri and his work.
The next stop will be at Hraunfossar and a visit to the largest hot spring in the Northern Hemisphere, Deildartunguhver.
The tour returns to the starting point after approximately 9 hours.
