On a trip to Budapest, take the time to leave the city for this sightseeing tour to Gödöllo, and its Royal Palace. It is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Europe and its Royal Apartments and gardens are impressive.
The palace is often referred to as the Hungarian Versailles and was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Josef and his wife Queen Elizabeth. Stroll through the gardens and enjoy coffee and cake at the palace café on this sightseeing tour to Gödöllo.
You will be picked up from your hotel and travel in a coach/mini bus to Tour of Gödöllo Palace.
We will drive to Gödöllo (30 km from Budapest) and visit the impressive former summer residence of Queen Elisabeth of the Habsburg Dynasty, honoured and commonly known as "SISSY"- and walk through the interior of the second-largest Baroque palace in the world (magnificent suites, ballrooms and a chapel, the royal gardens and bower).
The main building was built in the 1740s and later was expanded (two more wings, riding hall, theatre) in stages by the famous Hungarian aristocratic family the Grassalkovich.
From 1867 the building worked as a royal summer residence of Franz Joseph I and his wife Queen Elizabeth of the Habsburg dynasty.
After the destruction of World War II and the decades of socialism, the buildings have been beautifully reconstructed to their original condition.
Guests will be invited for a fine coffee or a soft drink in the Palace Bar.
The tour ends at the Erzsébet Square.
